Yes, girls are allowed to sit for the NDA Exam. In compliance with the judgment of the Honorable Supreme Court, UPSC has released the latest notification for the Recruitment of Women Candidates into the National Defence Academy.

Are Girls Allowed In NDA?

NDA is one of the most popular entrance examinations in the country for joining the defence sector. The exam is conducted twice every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for admission to Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). NDA examination consists of two stages: written exam and SSB Interview.
Are Girls Allowed in NDA?
Yes, girls are allowed to sit for the NDA Exam. In compliance with the judgment of the Honorable Supreme Court in the case of Kush Kalra Vs. UoI & Others, UPSC has released the latest notification for the Recruitment of Women Candidates into the National Defence Academy. With the NDA Exam 2021 part, 2 women have been allowed to sit in the exam.

Nationality

To apply for NDA, a Girl candidate must be: 

1) A citizen of India or

2) A subject of Nepal or

3) A subject of Bhutan

4) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, intending to permanently settle in India or

5) A person originally Indian who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam intending to permanently settle in India

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories 2, 3, 4 and 5 shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Indian government.

A certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.


Age Limit

  • For NDA 2, Girls candidates must have been born not earlier than January 2, 2002, and not later than January 1, 2005. 
  • For NDA 1, Girls candidates should be born not earlier than July 2, 2001, and not later than July 1, 2004. 
  • The commission will accept the date of birth that is entered in Class 10 or 12 certificates of the candidate.
    Candidates need to submit these certificates after the declaration of the result of the written exam.

Educational Qualification

  • The educational qualification recommended for girl candidates for admission to the different academies is given below:

    The Army wing of NDA

    Passed class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognized board

    The Air Force and Naval wings of NDA and 10+2 Cadet entry scheme at INA

    Passed Class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics

    Note:

    • Candidates who are appearing in Class 12th  or equivalent examination can apply.
    • Candidates appearing in the Class 11th exam are not eligible.

Marital Status

Only unmarried female candidates are eligible to apply for NDA Exam. Other than the above-mentioned eligibility criteria, there are certain physical fitness standards that must be fulfilled by the candidates to be finally selected.

Candidates must note that NDA eligibility for males and females is the same, except for the physical criteria.  For details related to expected physical criteria candidates must refer to the official notification by UPSC for all the details related to NDA eligibility.

Physical Standards

  • Age Limit: While joining NDA, Candidates age must be between 16.5-18.5 years.
  • Physical Standards: Minimum Height: 4 ft 11″ .
  • Minimum weight: 40 kg for girls.

Examination Fee

Female candidates are not required to pay fees for their application for this Examination.
